Almotamar.net - President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the leader of the General People's Congress (GPC) on Thursday presided over a meeting for the General Committee of the party, considering many of political and organisational issues.

The general Committee discussed developments of the political situations and issues of dialogues with different poetical parties and organisations. It has also urged the parliament to speed up discussion and approval of amendments of the elections law in the manner leading to setting up the supreme commission for elections.
The Committee considered the amendments made in the elections law as a step for the national accord and enrichment of the political life via dialogue leading to fulfilling the constitutional dues, mainly the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled in Yemen in April 2009 according to their fixed dates.

The committee affirmed keenness of the GPC on holding elections in their constitutional and legal dates in implementation of its commitments and pledges included in its electoral programmes and the presidential platform and parliamentary and local elections.

The GPC General Committee also praised the establishment of the National democratic Alliance between the GPC and parties of the Opposition National Council, the Yemeni League, and the September Organization, considering the alliance as a political framework open to all political parties and forces that wish to join it.

It has also reiterated its condemnation of the terrorist attack on the security camp in Seyoun, governorate of Hadramout that claimed the life of one soldier and the injury of 17 persons. It confirmed such acts have nothing to do with Yemen's Islamic values and culture of the Yemeni society and they inflict the heaviest damage on its national economy and international reputation.

The meeting also called on political parties and organisations, Yemeni civil society organisations and the entire people to condemn the terrorist acts and to stand as one rank against all forms of extremism.

The General Committee also considered organisational issues and listened to reports on performance of the GPC organisations and future plans. It has also approved appointment of Dr Ahmed Ubaid Bin Daghr Assistant Secretary General at the GPC.
