Almotamar Net - Head of the Political Office at the General Peoples Congress (GPC) Abdullah Ahmed Ghanim said Sunday that the ongoing political events in the Yemeni arena are the product of preparations for the upcoming elections and can be put under early competitions among political parties in preparation for gaining the best results and winning the largest number of seats in the parliament to be decided in elections of 27 April 2009. While the GPC leading member affirmed that they at the GPC view that as a natural and legitimate right for each political party and organisation to prepare itself for the battle of elections and to gain confidence of the electorate and the largest number of seats of the parliament through balloting boxes, he presumed the opposition to have the same stance if it were believing and convinced in democracy. He pointed out that some leaderships of opposition parties try to endorse complications of the circumstances of the present stage in their favour coercively. Mr Ghanim said that undoubtedly has no relation with political contest, which is normal and legitimate in any democratic practice at all stages of preparation for elections. He has also criticized the practice of political extortion .

In an interview to the Yemeni 26 September weekly he expressed the GPC resentment of those practices, affirming that nevertheless the GPC dealt with broad-mindedness .

Moreover, in his interview to almotramar.net he said, "The problem with them (opposition parties) is that they understand dialogue as if for their own interest while we understand it as in interest of the people and then for the interest of the political parties, and here lies the difference in the perception of dialogue.
