Almotamar.net - Chairman of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) Khalid Abdulwahab al-Sharif affirmed in his meeting Tuesday with representative of the European Union reviewed ongoing preparations at the SCER for getting ready carrying out revision and correction of tables of electors in preparation for holding the parliamentary elections of 2009.

The meeting discussed areas of cooperation between Yemen and the European Union in the electoral field. The meeting also reviewed report and recommendations of the EU team that took part in the presidential and local elections held in 2006.

Al-Sharif emphasized the SCER keenness on the work with transparency within the frame of international criteria in the management of the parliamentary electoral process for the year 2009 and participation of international organisations in all steps of the electoral process. Hr has also affirmed endeavour of the SCER to implement the recommendations included in the report of the European Union within the frame of constitutional and legal authorities given to the Commission.

The two sides agreed on preparing joint visions for projects and programmes serving the electoral process in partnership of the European Union, the UNDP, donor organisations and the SCER for the implementation of those recommendations and benefiting from the project of the electoral support of the UNDP under a major support by the EU Commission.
