Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General of the General People's Congress (GPC) for Information Sector Dr Ahmed Ubaid Bin Daghr said Friday the current stage is characterized Assistant Secretary General of the General People's Congress for Information Sector Dr Ahmed Ubaid Bin Daghr said Friday the current stage has different characteristics and it is object to discussion and exchange of opinions among political leaderships in the arena.

He said what distinguishes the present stage is the acuteness of the conflict that made some trends deviate from the national constants and the GPC dealt with them out of national precept but they dealt with the GPC out of self interests.

At the conclusion of the Ramadan evening organised by Sana'a University's GPC branches on Thursday Bin Daghr said the stand of the opposition towards the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) is similar to their stance with regard to the constitution and the previous law of the SCER and they are at present repeating the same political mistakes and adopt extremist stances. He added it is no wonder in that. The JMP embraces two extremist currents and the only point that gathers them and they agree on is toppling the political system in Yemen in order to attain power. They (JMP) do not realise that the right to attain power comes only via polling boxes." They are now repeating their extremist stands towards the elections law." Dr Bin Daghr added that whatever their desperate attempt were the GPC has great responsibilities whether regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on their fixed time or in implementing the president's platform. He affirmed that the elections would be held on time and that is a political national decision because the GPC and its leaderships respect the constitution and would defend the existing laws.
Dr Bin Daghr cited the extremist and contradictory stances of the JMP by calling to remember its demands in the previous elections which were characterized by political extremism. He added that they used to say elections cannot be held while there was a war going on in Saada and troubles in the south and when that changed the stances changed and came out with other demands , namely the proportional representation. Among their demands was also the unanimity in committees which contradicts the democratic approach; the existence of unananimity in democratic situations has no meaning. It is normal that those winning majority in parliament have the right to take the suitable decision and issue the suitable laws they think they would realise a national interest. He said continuation in carrying out the president's platform exists despite of the difficulties it has faced. The opposition has to understand its responsibility in the partnership for building the homeland.

Dr Nin Daghr touched on the question of corruption , which is an undeniable fact but despite of their exaggeration in criticism of this phenomenon the opposition did not offer any suggestion for fighting corruption whereas the GPC has been trying to fight corruption through some measures that it has recently taken.
