Almotamar.net - The Yemeni Foreign Ministry said Thursday it would present a working paper on issues of the Somali refugees in Yemen at an international 4-day meeting scheduled in Geneva to begin on 6 October.
Deputy Foreign Minister, the chairman of the national committee for refugee affairs Dr Ali Muthana Hassan said he would carry a Yemeni vision to meeting of the 59th session of the UNHCR"s programme that is scheduled to discuss situations of refugees in the world and their protection that will last until the 10th of this month.
Dr Hassan also clarified that the Yemeni conception would focus on solutions for the issues of the Somali refugees who fled the civil war and whose number exceeds 700 thousand refugees that migrated to Yemen. He has pointed out that the ramifications of war is not confine to the act of seeking refuge but rather to acts of piracy that have increased lately in a worrying form for security of sea navigation and world stability .
Saba news agency of Yemen quoted the Deputy Foreign Minister as saying the way for dealing with issues of the refugees begins with the political solution for the Somali issue, and that is what president Ali Abdullah Saleh confirms on through the big role he plays for bringing closer the viewpoints of the Somali factions and calling them to the negotiating table.
The Yemeni official also drew the attention to the burdens Yemen bears to guarantee more comprehensive and better care for the refugees in the region of the Horn of Africa and the necessity of the international community contribution to Yemen efforts in shouldering this humanitarian responsibility.
Meanwhile, Yemen is to take party in the international meeting on discussing and preparing a directory on the way of dealing with the refugees in prisons. The meting is to begin in Geneva the beginning of the present week.
