The Ministry gave information it received from the International Centre for Combating Piracy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia indicating that the pirates released the ship under agreement with their owners in return for financial ransom, the amount of which was not disclosed in keeping secrecy of the deal.

Somali pirates attacked this year 30 ships while sailing offshore Somali coast the latest of which is the Ukraine ship kidnapped at the end of last September. This incident has aroused international concern about sea piracy in the region and its danger on safety of international navigation.

News on growing of piracy incidents comes amidst Yemeni confirmation and keenness on the importance of intensification of efforts by the countries on the Red Sea in order to confront the increasing acts of piracy to the south of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in the manner that ensures safety of international navigation.

And in this regard the Yemeni foreign minister Dr Abu Bakr al-Qirbi said ," The countries overlooking the Red Sea and the Arabian sea have to shoulder their responsibility and to coordinate efforts among them to combat acts of piracy and not to depend on foreign countries in that."

In his statement published by al-Siyasa newspaper on Saturday the Yemeni foreign minister said the recent visit of President Ali Abdullah Saleh to each of Jordan and Egypt came within his efforts for coordination with the countries overlooking the Red Sea and to muster efforts for the fighting of the sea piracy carried out by Somali pirates.
