Almotamar.net - Preliminary estimates included in the survey of the World Bank (WB) mentioned that the total primary cost of the damage and losses in the areas affected by the disaster of torrents in Yemeni governorates of Hadramout and Mahara amounts to approximately $ one billion.

The survey reviewed Thursday in the plenary meeting between the Yemeni government and the donors clarified that the damage was in the sectors of roads, health, waters, housing, agriculture and others.

The meeting also reviewed results of evaluating the needs and damage mentioned in the survey carried out by teams of the United Nations and the WB under request by the Yemeni Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the help of experts from the WB and the UN. The survey conducted by the UN included evaluation of urgent relief needs.

The two sides agreed on that the UN, in coordination with government parties that prepared surveys on evaluation of damage and needs, would present results of the survey within week from convening of this meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Abdulkarim Ismael al-Arhabi , also discussed results of evaluation of the needs and damage in the areas affected by latest disaster of torrents in both areas of relief and reconstruction.

At the beginning of the meeting the deputy prime minister al-Arhabi expressed appreciation of the Yemeni government of the interaction demonstrated by regional and international donor countries and organisations for supporting and enhancing efforts of relief and reconstruction in the affected areas.

Al-Arhabi also called on donors to increase supporting the existing efforts so that to muster support for helping Yemen in facing the disaster of torrents and its consequences of heavy damage to the infrastructure and public and private properties.
