Almotamar Net - The National Democratic Institute (NDI) has called Saturday on Yemeni competitive political parties to respect the previous agreements between them without taking trenches at partisan positions and narrow interests that may undermine foundations of the democratic and electoral process. The NDI assed a mutual agreement must be reached that would overcome the present gaps through the parties looking forward to enhancing the democratic process in Yemen.

Parties allied in the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) had disavowed the agreement of principles signed between the General People's Congress (GPC) in June 2006. The agreement stipulated the formation of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) from judges. The JMP also endeavored to foil the dialogue for two years and rejected initiatives and concessions offered by the GPC and the initiative of President Ali Abdullah Saleh on dividing the SCER equally between the GPC and the JMP and to be chaired by an independent person and aimed at enhancement of the democratic process by the expansive participation of all political parties and organisations in the upcoming right.

The Regional Director of the Middle East and North Africa in the NDI a Lies Campbell called in a press statement obtained by almotamar.net on all political parties and organisations to work together to surmount blocks and gaps concerning the law of elections and electoral management in Yemen so that to guarantee that the people of Yemen participation in an electoral experiment with a well- organised will and the election of their representatives representing the real pluralism in the parliamentary elections of 2009.

The NDI added that the upcoming parliamentary elections should be managed in a manner enhancing continuity of the positive steps that were achieved in the presidential and local elections held in 2006.

Me Campbell also affirmed that the challenges at present faced by the operation of revising and amending voter records do not augur well concerning continuation of progress in the future. He said all political forces must work together for reaching an agreement so that the democratic and election process continues its march in peace and safety as much as possible in the way giving positive reflection to the democratic growth in Yemen.

NDI also confirm it is partner in the democratic experiment in Yemen since the elect ions of 1993 and it would continue work for supporting Yemen's endeavor towards a multi-party democracy and would help in all efforts for the realisation of tangible achievements in the political reforms.
