By: almotamar.net - Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation organized Sunday August 20 a workshop on the preparation of a policy paper for foreign development aids. The workshop involved a number of officials and experts from the Ministry of Planning and other concerned government agencies.
At the opening session, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Kareem Al-Arhabi delivered a speech, stressing that sound management is central to the allocation of development aids to meet the needs of comprehensive development.
“There is a tendency on the part of the government to activate the policy of directing foreign aids towards the achievement of the objectives expected of the development processes in various fields,” Al-Arhabi stated.
On the other hand, Nabil Ali Shaiban, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry, reviewed the objectives and results anticipated from this workshop. He also gave a snapshot of the current situation of foreign aids, pointing out the government’s efforts to activate the optimal utilization of foreign aids in such a way as to comply with approved development plans.
On the other hand, Stephen Johns, an expert from the Oxford Institute for Economic Policy, offered a detailed account of reference studies on which the aid policy paper is going to be based.
Najla’ Al-Saqqaf, a representative from the Ministry’s Foreign Aids Coordination Unit, reviewed the results of the government’s survey on cooperation ties with donors.
The participants discussed the issues related to the drafting of the foreign aid policy paper and the mechanisms to enhance Yemen’s relationship with donors as well as the fields that should have aid priority in such a manner as to serve the five-year development plan and national reforms agendas.
