Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General of the General People’s Congress GPC, Dr Amat al-Razzaq Hummad aid Thursday the woman received a special status at the GPC and present in it since the foundation of the party for quarter of a century.

Hummad pointed out that the woman in the GPC contested in elections and her presence was not by appointment. She indicated that she was elected as Assistant Secretary General and a sector special for the woman was created by the election of 4 woman members of the GPC General Committee and the increase of her representation at various organisation bodies of the GPC.

At a symposium organized by Yemen Women Union and Madrid Club Dr Hummad called dealing seriously with issues of the woman, especially the issue of her participation in candidacy for elections, pointing out that the number of women in voter record is high and their number in some constituencies exceeded the voices of men.


Meanwhile, the Head of the Information Office of the GPC Tareq al-Shamy clarified that the GPC worked for enhancement of the woman participation in its organisations by allocation a proportion of 15% at different organisation formations of the GPC.

Al-Shamy also affirmed that the GPC stance concerning the woman participation is embodied in its initiative it has submitted on the allocation of 15% of the parliament seats for women and that was also included in the President of the Republic’s election platform.

He has also called on the political parties for cooperation with the GPC for the application of the President’s initiative in the upcoming elections, adding that the GPC views the woman as a major partner in the development process.
