Almotamar Net - Yemen parliament decided Wednesday to hold an extraordinary meeting Thursday under the demand of more than 120 MPs from parliamentary blocs of the General People’s Congress GPC, Joint Meeting Parties JMP and the independent. The extraordinary session is to be devoted to demand of amending article 65 of the Yemeni constitution related to defining the parliament term for six years. The reason for enabling to extending for two additional years for the present parliament supposed to hold elections for selecting new MPs on the 27th of next April.

Almotamar.net - Yemen parliament decided Wednesday to hold an extraordinary meeting Thursday under the demand of more than 120 MPs from parliamentary blocs of the General People’s Congress GPC, Joint Meeting Parties JMP and the independent. The extraordinary session is to be devoted to demand of amending article 65 of the Yemeni constitution related to defining the parliament term for six years. The reason for enabling to extending for two additional years for the present parliament supposed to hold elections for selecting new MPs on the 27th of next April.

The MPs, whose number exceeds the legally required third of the number for calling to extension, justified that for allowing the opportunity to the political parties and civil society organisations to discuss introduction of constitutional amendments necessary for development of the political and electoral, including the proportionate representation systems. The aim is also to enable the parties represented in the parliament to complete the subjects unfinished during the period for preparing amendments on the elections law before 18 of last August and to include what would be agreed on in the body of the law, in addition to re-formation of the supreme commission for elections.

According to legal measures, the demand for amending articles in the constitution it is necessary to secure acceptance of two thirds of the parliament members and after that, the subject is referred to the concerned committee to study the demand within two months time, i.e. on 26 of next April.
