Since the very beginning we were in charge of leading the homeland on July 17, 1978, amidst awfully miserable and complicated circumstances under which the homeland had underwent bloody disunity strife, instability, absence of the state and its institutions with the people feeling insecure and lacking the simplest necessaries of descent and free life, construction and development, since then we had our top priority set on managing to enhance security, stability and laying the foundations of the modern Yemeni State By: Ali Abdullah Saleh - "And say do deeds! Since the very beginning we were in charge of leading the homeland on July 17, 1978, amidst awfully miserable and complicated circumstances under which the homeland had underwent bloody disunity strife, instability, absence of the state and its institutions with the people feeling insecure and lacking the simplest necessaries of descent and free life, construction and development, since then we had our top priority set on managing to enhance security, stability and laying the foundations of the modern Yemeni State – the State of institutions and authority of law and order. Under such a State, thanks Allah, and in cooperation with all honest and faithful Yemenis, many achievements and transformations have been achieved in different fields: political, democratic, economic, social, cultural, security, military, etc. The top achievement is reunifying the homeland on May 22nd, 1990, and defending that achievement, embodying thereby constancy to the principles of the eternal Yemeni revolution and the sacrifices of the blessed martyrs. We exerted ourselves to meet all national expectations of our fellow people who granted us their valuable confidence to lead the homeland on the paths of freedom, unity, democracy, development, and comprehensive urban awakening.
Shouldering responsibility, we have been epitomizing, both before and after the achievement of the glorious Reunification, the notion of tolerance, dialogue and amnesty. We have been keen to adopt a moderate rational national policy aspiring to achieve the higher interests of the country and the people and strengthen the bonds of national unity and social peace. We have been keen to close the files of the past with all its conflicts and pains experienced by the country throughout its contemporary history since the eruption of the immortalized Yemeni revolution (on Sept 26, 1962 and Oct 14, 1963) in the context of irresponsible strife for power and struggle to achieve selfish interests by resorting to totalitarian practices and the reckless approach of some extremist forces which used to assault people's lives, souls, and families and deprive them of their dignity, freedom, rights and private properties. We have always been interested in dressing wounds and resolving all sticking points including those related to the people affected by the said conflicts and malpractices. On top of our remedies were the enforcement of national reconciliation approach and resolving nationalization problems created by the totalitarian regime in the country's southern governorates. These problems were treated justly and amicably in respect of both landlords and tenants.
We also contained the aftermaths of sorrowful Jan 13, 1986 events which cast their shadow on many people who took part in them or were victimized by them. There is also the mischief of recantation, war and cessation in the summer of 1994, whose price was pocketed by those who sparked it for the purpose of tearing the homeland and inciting national mischief in return of a cheap price they are now investing in their interest locally and abroad, with which they have enriched themselves at the expense of the blood of blessed martyrs and the victims of that mischief such as the maimed people and at the expense of the interest of the country and the people. We have always been managing to address the aftermaths of that particular mischief and others such as that which occurred in Sa'dah by issuing an amnesty and taking the necessary measures and remedies to rearrange the circumstances of the mischief-affected people. Should simple matters remain untreated, they are taken into consideration promptly, in accordance with the country's interest.
Despite all challenges, problems and difficult conditions that encountered the country over the past period, whether locally, regionally or internationally, we, thanks Allah, have been able to continue to steer the ship of the country towards the shore of safety and towards building the new civilized Yemen which we spared every form of fanaticism and extremism and saved it from all risks and storms besetting it at different times especially following Sept 11, 2001, events in the USA which could have placed Yemen right after Afghanistan on the targeted countries list under the excuse of combating terrorism. Thanks Allah, the country and the people, under the banner of unity, freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, have been enjoying security, stability, contentment and towering achievements in different realms of life. Yemen has attained a prestigious position among regional, Arab, Islamic and international nations by virtue of firm principles and moderate sound approach that has made it possible to establish strong and developed cooperation ties with fraternal and brotherly countries and resolve Yemen's border disputes with its neighbors peacefully and fraternal understanding based on the no-harm principle.
Moreover, there is the enhancement of Yemen's role in serving the issues of the Arab and Muslim nation and serving security and peace in the area and worldwide.
Here the country keeps going forward with confidence and capability towards a better future that promises more goodness, prosperity, progress, and thriving with Allah's will.
In order to keep the country secure and prosperous and in order to build a brighter future for Yemen's generations, we renew the pledge and promise to preserve the revolution, republic, unity, freedom and democracy, protect the historical national achievements, keep up the productive and developmental process, go ahead making gains and accomplishments on all arenas: political, democratic, economic, social, cultural, security, military, etc., and tirelessly work for the sake of stabilizing the foundations of the State of institutions and law and order, enhancing security and stability, fostering the democratic experience, embodying the principle of peaceful transfer of power and political plurality approach, boosting protection and respect for human rights and women's involvement, ensuring public and private liberties, pushing Yemen up to the level expected by all of its people, men and women, both inside and abroad, completing the development, construction and civilized awakening process, fighting corruption and establishing a stout national economy that provides all people with a descent life.
For the sake of a Yemen with a better future that promises goodness, productivity, and achievements for the people and the coming generations, we propose this platform, asking Allah, the Supreme and Omnipotent, to inspire us with guidance and wisdom and help us in serving our country, people, and nation. He is All-Hearer and Most Responsive.
