Almotamar.net - Preparations are underway for the holding of second ordinary session of the General People’s Congress GPC 7th General Conference that would be held on 27 April 2009, the anniversary of Democracy Day that falls next Monday.

Head of the Information Office at the GPC Tareq al-Shamy said Tuesday the committees assigned with preparation for the convening of the second session of the 7th General Conference are putting the final touches on the documents to be presented to session after they are endorsed by the major Permanent Committee that would hold its meeting prior to convening the 7th General Conference.

Al-Shamy added that the 2nd session of the 7th General Conference would consider report by the GPC Secretary General. The report is to include the tasks and political and organizational performance of the GPC done between the first and the second sessions of the 7th General Conference. Al-Shamy pointed out that the report would also contain activity of the GPC’s ministerial committee in the previous period.

He added that the session would discuss a report by the Organizational Monitoring and Financial Inspection Body in addition to amendments of the rules of procedure of the GPC in accordance with the visions drawn up by he party’s formations. Amendments are aimed at development of the GPC’s institutional structure.

Al-Shamy said the session would also consider different national issues, among them the results of the national dialogue between various political forces and civil society organisations. It will discuss future visions aimed to raising the living standard for the citizens, fighting poverty and unemployment, corruption and terror as well as reforms and amendments for developing the political system.
Al-Shamy said members of the General conference would also discuss the issue of defacing all attempts targeting the national unity, security, stability and social peace in addition to confronting regional call and spread of the spirit of hatred among sons of the same homeland, through partnership with all political forces and civil society organisations in bearing their responsibilities towards those issues and various issues concerning the homeland.
