Almotamar.net - The participants in the regional conference held in Yemen on 22-23 February 2010 under the motto of ‘Yemeni labour and requirements the Gulf labour market’ recommended the establishment of a higher council for Yemeni labour. the council is to undertake planning and preparation of strategies and programmes that guarantee training , qualification and marketing the Yemeni labour as well as exploring requirements of the Gulf labour market.

While the participants in the conference recommended the necessity of urging the Gulf States via official and non-official channels to cancel the present system of guaranty, similar to the step taken by Bahrain recently, they valued highly Kuwait’s decision of granting priority to Yemeni labour in employment after the Kuwaiti citizens.

The conferees also stressed the necessity of marketing the Yemeni labour in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states due to its characteristics compared to the Asian labour with regard of keeping the Arab identity, culture and language. They have also pointed out the necessity of urging the GCC states on the possibility of allocating a yearly quota for the Yemeni labour in the Gulf labour market.

The conferees also recommended the establishment of communication channels with the private sector in the GCC states due to its important role in determining the required labour from other markets, especially the Yemeni market.
