Almotamar.net, Saba - Kuwait Energy Company (KEC) is to lead a consortium to establish strategic projects in gas domain in Yemen, the KEC Vice President of GCC Projects Abdulaziz Alkhowaiter said on Monday.

Alkhowaiter said during his meeting with the Minister of Oil and Minerals Amir Salim al-Aydarus that the company plans to expand its investments in Yemen in oil area and utilize gas in a number of industrial fields including electricity generation, petrochemical industry and domestic gas.

The company intends to attract gulf investments to Yemen and to get financings from gulf and international finance corporations to carry out projects in Yemen in foresaid areas and infrastructure areas as well.

During the meeting, al-Aydarus and Alkhowaiter reviewed the KEC plan in gas industries and providing some governorates with gas via pipes to supply factories with energy.

Welcoming the Kuwaiti investments in Yemen, al-Aydarus voiced the ministry's readiness to offer all facilities and information that would enable the company to identify the gas investment domains.

He said that Yemen has commercial quantities of natural gas need to be exploited, calling on the company to study the available investment opportunities in minerals in the country.

KEC began its investments in Yemen in 2008 after acquiring franchise in three exploration blocks No. 15, 35 and 74 in Hadramout province. The company also has shares in exploration blocks No. 82 and 82.
