The process registered on that day the first process of peaceful transfer of power.

Almotamar.net - The Yemeni Vice-President , the secretary General of the ruling General People’s Congress (GPC) party Abid Rabeh Mansour Hadi has said Friday that the 17th of July 1978 would remain one of the immortal days in the history of Yemen . On that day president Ali Abdullah Saleh was elected President of the Republic for the first in the history of the people of Yemen in a democratic way. The process registered on that day the first process of peaceful transfer of power.

Mr Hadi has said that President Saleh came as saver of Yemen and the Yemenis from remnants of the imamate and agents of colonialism that continued conspiring against the Yemeni revolution and igniting seditions among the sons of the one homeland to impede the achievement of principles of the Yemeni revolutions of 26 September and 14 October.

The GPC Secretary General added that before the date of 17 July 1978 only toms were being built and the trade of shrouds were flourishing as well as barricades of wars which were occurring between the sons of the north and the south. Amidst that chaos President Saleh to power so that to inaugurate the beginning of the era of security and stability and the civilized building of the country and to put an end to tragedies of ideologies conflict at the expense of the Yemeni blood.

In an interview to Al-Mithaq newspaper of Yemen, the Vice-President said some years since President Saleh was elected when the Baathists, Nasserites and all other underground parties have begun publicly working and all their effort was directed for the establishment of a Yemeni Shoura (consultative) experiment through a national programme coined by all sons of the Yemeni people, represented by the National Charter.

Meanwhile, the Yemeni Socialist Party (YSP) began shrinking upon itself and indulged in internal conflict because it was ruling for the interest of its members rather than realization of the people’s interests.

Hadi added that by his political wisdom, President Saleh managed to render the tragic policies of the YSP and opportunity for urging the people to achieve the greatest national projects, at the forefront of which is the achievement of the Yemeni reunification on 22 May 1990.

The Vice-President pointed out that the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) are repeating today the same dramatic death experiment after consuming al their shiny religious, nationalist and internationalist slogans.

Hadi added that while “we are marking this occasion we have increased belief that there is no guarantee for security and stability of our country and protection of the revolution achievements, the republic and the unity but
by democracy.”

The Vice-President added, “ We renew the pledge to out people that the GPC and with it all the Yemeni national forces in going ahead in holding constitutional rights on their date and would never allow the return to confiscating of the people’s rights or to accept making the parliamentary elections as sham as some parties want them . We meanwhile reaffirm that any attempts to impede the constitutional amendments or approval of the elections law do not differ from the acts of sabotage aimed at aborting developmental projects “
