Almotamar.net - The parliament of Yemen has approved on Saturday amendments of the elections law amid rejection of the opposition Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) whose parliamentarians have gathered in front of the parliament presidency desk.

The MPs added a selective article considering the present electors records as final and would be depended on for procedures of the parliamentary elections on 27 of next April. It has also obliged the government to finish an electronic civil record to be depended on in the electoral record after the upcoming elections.

The amendments included 31 articles among them a section restricting the electoral place to the place of permanent residency or the original place of the family. The law was stipulating also the place of work.

The amendments also included controls preventing the use of public property or public service in favour of any party or candidate in general elections.

The General Peoples Congress (GPC) party and parties of the opposition JMP had in 2008 agreed on the amendments but delay of the opposition in presenting names of its members at the Supreme Commission for Elections hindered the issuing of the amendments at that time as it is considered that the agreement stipulated coincidence between the amendments and the re-formation of the Commission. On the other hand the Speaker of the parliament Yahya al-Raei was forced to end the session in the wake of the opposition MPs refusal to return to their to their seats.

It was scheduled to listen to the Deputy Premier for Defence and Security Affairs Dr Rashad al-Alimi who attended the parliament to reply to a petition presented by MPs last week demanding clarification on what was published in WikiLeaks site of accusing him of lying to the parliament by denying that hitting al-Qaeda in Abyan, months ago, by American forces.
