By: Jamil al-Jadabi - TAIZ- Around 1,000 leaders and members of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) announced on Sunday their withdrawal from their parties, and willingly joined the General People's Congress (GPC).
A celebration was held on this occasion. Ms. Ahlam al-Mekhlafi delivered a speech on behalf of the socialist members who joined the GPC, saying, "We have to either stand by the homeland, unification and security, or stand by conspiring against the country and denying all the accomplishments. Of these two choices, we decided to stand by the homeland and unification, democracy, development, dignity of Yemeni people, and GPC's platform."
Islah leader Mohammed Muzahem who joined the GPC praised the principles adopted by the GPC. He affirmed he and his colleagues who withdrew from the Islah Party will warn people of the Islah's deception. The Islah Party leaders strive for power more than people's interests, he noted.
In the beginning of the celebration, Jaber Abdullah Ghaleb, head of the GPC Taiz Branch, welcomed the leaders and members who joined the GPC. "These leaders and members have joined the GPC as they found the JMP's speeches pose a threat to the security and stability of the country," he said.
