By: Mohammed Taher - LAHJ- The General People's Congress (GPC) held Wednesday an electoral rally in Lahj governorate for Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saleh launched the rally by standing one moment praying for the victims of Ibb rally stampede that occurred Tuesday.
Saleh said Lahj governorate had stood by the 26 September and 14 October revolutions, reminding them of Rajeh Labouzah , Faisal Abdul-Latif, and Saeed Saleh who died martyrs in the 14 Revolution.
"The political motion Yemen is witnessing nowadays is a basis for democracy. What the opposition says nowadays falls under the frame of freedom and democracy," Saleh added.
Saleh emphasized the electoral rallies held in various governorates are matchless comparing with those held in Europe or America. Electoral festivals in Europe and America are held in closed halls, he said.
"We are in the country of Shoura, freedom and democracy: the land of Sheba and Balqis. We go back to our ancient history. We don't accept democracy imposed on us by the West. We have established democracy on 22 May, 1990, and no force in the world can bring us back to partition," Saleh noted.
The GPC's presidential candidate called on people to forget the past and think of a unified, democratic country.
Concluding his speech, Saleh said, "We greet all of you, people of Lahj, and affirm that we will work to distribute residential and agricultural lands among young people all over the country. By the end of 2008, there will be no jobless youths."
