Almotamar.net - An official military source in the southern military region stated Tuesday that army and security personnel in Abyan province, Yemen continue their operation of clearing the city of Zanjibar and its suburbs from terrorist elements belonging to al-Qaeda organisation in Yemen.

The source said that armed forces and security men inflicted heavy losses in men and equipment on those elements in the confrontations which occurred on Monday evening in Douqas area and at outskirts of Zanjibar.

The source clarified that armed forces men killed more than 30 of the terrorist elements and a large number of wounded in fierce confrontations that lasted for three hours. Among the killed terrorists is Hasan al-Uqaili, one of the leaders of the al-Qaeda organisation in Mareb province and one of the security-wanted elements. Other terrorist elements fled the area of confrontations after pulling out their dead and wounded.

The source said there was a number of martyrs and wounded among armed forces men during those confrontations. He added that army men from mechanized brigade 25 have repelled an attack by terrorist elements outside the city of Zanjibar, forced them to flee and inflicted on them losses in men and equipment.
