Almotamar.net, Saba - Sana’a - The cabinet approved on Tuesday a memorandum on the acceptance of Yemen's joining 1996 Protocol to amend the 1976 Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims.

In its weekly meeting chaired by Information Minister Hasan al-Lawzi, the cabinet ordered the concerned ministers to finalize the constitutional procedures to the final approval.

The memorandum presented by Transport Ministry clarified that joining to the amended protocol would enable Yemen to utilize from increasing the limits of liability (compensation amount), particularly in claims for loss of life or personal injury from the ship's owner.

Furthermore, the protocol aims to provide for enhanced compensation and to establish a simplified procedure for updating the limitation amounts.

The cabinet also approved the executive bylaw for the Law No. 23 for 2010 on trademarks and geographical indications and directed to complete legal measures for issuance.
