United Nations Special Advisor on Yemen Jamal Benomar has stated that the UN will work to mobilize all necessary international support for the 31-point lists to be implemented. He also said that increased efforts need to be exerted in order for consensus votes and positive results to be obtained.
"All parties in Yemen are committed to resolving southern issues and already unanimously agreed that the solution will only be reached via the National Dialogue Conference,'' said Benomar.
His comments came during a press conference which followed a meeting attended by the Consensus Committees subcommittee and a Yemeni Government subcommittee, both of which have been tasked with following up on the implementation of the 31-point lists.
Benomar noted that the joint meeting of the two committees amounted to proof that there was a commitment to implementing the points, which are themselves focused on efforts to rebuild trust in Yemen.
"There is disagreement on the matter of implementation mechanisms, and this is the subject of the current discussions. I hope this matter will be settled soon, in order for the NDCs outcomes to be unanimously agreed upon," he said.
The UN Special Advisor added that among the unresolved matters was the form of Yemens future form of governance, which he said was still the subject of intensive discussions by all components present at the NDC.
"These are important points [which] require a scheduled plan to be carried out," he said, before adding that the UN's position was clear, that it would continue to support Yemeni efforts to implement swift confidence-building measures.
