almotamar.net - Yemen and China signed in Beijing an agreement on expanding and deepening the Aden Container Terminal (ACT) at a cost of $507 million.

The agreement was signed by Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation and the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), as a part of the agenda of the visit of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi to China began on Tuesday.

The project includes constructing an additional container berth with 1,000 meters in length and a depth of 18 meters, and deepening and extending the shipping channels.

Under the agreement, the CHEC also deepens and expands the vessels turning basin and installing giant gantry cranes and a mobile container crane to raise the capacity of handling up to1.5 million containers per year, in addition to carry out some extensions of containers storage yard, service facilities, administrative facilities and a central maintenance workshop.

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is a world-renowned international contractor that is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). CHEC has 50 overseas branches and offices with business activities covering more than 80 countries and areas.

CHEC, founded in 1980, specializes in basic infrastructure construction, such as marine engineering, dredging and reclamation, road and bridge, railways, airports, complete plant, and other works.
