almotamar.net - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states have welcomed the decision to accept Yemen to become member of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

On the fringes of the 9th ministerial meeting of WTO in Bali, Indonesia, and after meeting with GCC ministers of commerce, Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry Anas Al-Saleh said that Yemen was finally able to finish negotiating terms to join the world trade body.

He added that the GCC states affirmed the right of all countries to join WTO without any hurdles. He noted that the GCC states support the least developed countries on their call to extend the transitional period of the WTO's Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) to year 2021.

The agreement recognizes the plight of the least-developed countries and the need to ensure their effective participation in the world trading system, and to take further measures to improve their trading opportunities.
