Almotamar Net - SANAA- Assistant secretary-general of the General Peoples Congress (GPC) Sultan al-Barakani welcomed the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) block call for abandoning violence as indicated in its statement issued for voters and candidates By: almotamar.net - SANA'A- Assistant secretary-general of the General People's Congress (GPC) Sultan al-Barakani welcomed the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) block call for abandoning violence as indicated in its statement issued for voters and candidates. Commenting on that statement, al-Barakani said bearing arms inside polling centers is legally prohibited, and no need for fatwa to be issued in this regard. "All should respect the law and what has been mentioned in this statement. In the GPC we are keen to hold elections without violence," he added.
Al-Barakani regretted the extraordinary meeting for the JMP to be held Tuesday." Perhaps, the JMP block is convinced that its success seems little in the elections. It seems that the JMP leaders have thoroughly studied the issue of the election campaign rallies held in various governorates of the country, and are convinced that the insane dreams they dealt with since the beginning of the election campaign have evaporated and that their parties with a dead platform and contracting party presidential candidate will have neither luck nor approval as the Yemeni people are keen not to link the presidency with five heads plus a hired president that can cancel the contract at any moment. We hopethey would stick to democracy, and if they are convinced their luck has become very slight, then it is the will of the people, and they have to respect it. This is the destiny of the JMP bloc as it includes members that embrace fundamentalism, extremism, terrorism, Marxism. It already denied the existence of God. Today, we can't talk or negotiate with atheist on anything" he noted.
Al-Barakani pointed out that the agreement of principles and election law have specified the state's appliances and their responsibilities during the elections. The GPC needs no new recommendations by the JMP block, which feels that the majority of its leaderships joined President Ali Abdullah Saleh, he added.
"We hope elections wouldn't render wrangles before starting the voting process. We also hope the JMP wouldn't issue statements which indicate defeat or create executes , because elections will be held on 20 September, whether the JMP block participated or not. The people will practice their rights in the elections," he said.
As for soldiers, al-Barakani affirmed the security and military members are voters, whether they come in their uniform or not. "Unfortunately, the JMP leaders talked about the quota system, and today they are destroying this subject as they reject the polling centers for the presidential elections."
Al-Barakani renewed the GPC's refusal of violence and the defeatist. "We hope the elections wouldn't render extortion. The GPC no longer accepts negotiating with partners that revealed their inability to select a candidate to run for presidency and made the election process not serious. "We see that elections are not serious since the moment the JMP block felt it is unable to vie in the elections as it resorted to hiring a presidential candidate," he concluded.
