Almotamar.net - By her large turnout at ballot stations of the presidential and local councils elections in Yemen, the Yemeni woman is drawing a picture of national awareness and consciousness that she has reached and the role she is playing at political, social, economic and cultural levels. The Yemeni woman electoral turnout in such a manner embodies the status she has acquired and her effective participation in the decision-making process.

The number of woman electors in the updated records of the Supreme Commission of Election and Referendum (SCER) constitutes about four million women out of the total of over nine million electors and the proportion of registered woman amounts to forty percent registered in elector records. The number of woman candidates for the local councils for the year 2006 amounts to 185 before the withdrawal of 11 of them, according to statistics of the SCER.
