Almotamar Net - The Supreme Commission of Election and Referendum (SCER) has ended at 8:00 pm this evening the period of polling for the presidential and local councils elections in Yemen after an extension of two hours for about 50% of election stations because of continued large turnout of electors amounting to more than nine millions who have been going to poll boxes since morning to more than 5 thousand polling stations all over the county to cast their votes in the presidential and local councils elections of 2006. In an opinion poll of electors conducted by the Almotamar.net it has been noticed their consensus on re-election of the General People�s Congress (GPC)�s candidate Ali Abdullah Saleh for another term, and also giving their voices to the GPC�s candidates for the local councils of the governorates. Tendencies of electors in some election stations varied between choosing independent candidates and those of the GPC and the JMP for the local councils in the districts.
Mohammed Saleh Nasser al-Matari from the local constituency (26), Bani Matar said tendencies of electors to the selection of the GPCs candidates is considered a true expression for the work for building, development, discard of violence and terror and commitment to moderateness.
After casting his voice, Haj Muhsin, 65, said he chose the GPC� candidate Ali Abdullah Saleh because he considers him the knight of the nation. At the same election center Dr Mohammed Saleh al-Jaadabi explained the electors tendency to elect the candidate for the presidential elections Ali Abdullah Saleh due to his being the only personality at this time and there is no other alternative for leading Yemen at the current stage in order to lead the people to understand the true democracy in practice and behavior. He considered that unanimity of electors on Saleh is a kind of their loyalty for what he has achieved for the homeland of accomplishments to be denied only by the rancorous. With regard to candidate of the GPC for the local councils Dr al-Jaadabi says the voters link the GPC logo to goodness; therefore they see those candidates deserve their voices.

.from the constituency (271) in the governorate of Saada Mohammed Dahhan Shaief says the electors there were unanimous to give their voices to candidate of the GPC Ali Abdullah Saleh as a result of full conviction in his person and his platform�s harmony with ambitions and demands of the people. Mr Gahhan clarified that the electors in this constituency came in a large turnout and continued like that throughout the whole day in expression of their keenness to practice their democratic right.
In the governorate of Ibb Khalid Amin al-Sharif, 33, from constituency (99) said he elected the GPC candidate because this party is the best for the country and is platform is realistic meeting ambitions of the masses away from false slogans, Nabil Abdulmajid, 2) has shard him the same opinion, adding there was a large elector turnout and said the international observers have visited most of the election centers of the constituency.

Millions of electors went today to poll boxes in the capital Sana�a and the rest of Yemen�s governorates to choose their candidate for the presidency post in second direct presidential and local councils elections in Yemen since the declaration of the unity on 22 May 1990.
There are five candidates contesting for presidency, namely, the GPC�s Ali.
1612 candidates also contest for membership of the local councils in the governorates.
