almotamar-net - RIYADH – Yemen’s ambassador to Riyadh, Mohammad Ali Mohsen, Yemen's permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), headed the 2nd meeting of Permanent Representatives of the OIC Member States on Wednesday, Saba news reported.

The meeting dealt with the abusive cartoons of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) first published in a Danish newspaper.
The meeting approved the five points presented by the OIC Secretary as a way to diffuse the crisis, and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.

The meeting followed the visit by the EU High Representative Javier Solana to the Headquarters of the OIC in Jeddah.

They called for the adoption by the EU of necessary legislative measures through the European Parliament against Islamophobia. They also called for joint efforts by the EU and the OIC to adopt UN Resolution on the lines of existing UN Resolution 60/150 (Combating defamation of religions), to prohibit defamation of all Prophets and faiths.

They also called for an adoption of a code of ethics for the European media, and the adoption of an International Communication Media Order by the UN, which should cover a definition of freedom of speech relating to religious symbols.

Finally they called for the inclusion of a paragraph prohibiting blasphemy, defamation of religions and incitement to hatred in the text of the Human Rights Council.
The OIC representatives said that NGOs and Member States have a crucial role to play in showing the true teachings of Islam, and highlighting the noble and lofty character of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH, especially in the countries of the West.
They also called for a strengthening of the role of the OIC Islamophobia Observatory group.
