Almotamar.net - Chairman of the Constitutional Committee at the parliament Ali Abu Hlaiqa called Thursday on the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) to respond to the invitation of the General People's Congress (GPC) for dialogue on various national issues at the top of which the questions submitted on political reforms, constitutional amendments and formation of the elections supreme commission.
Abu Hlaiqa said, " It is supposed that a round table meeting to be held for discussion of all initiatives and speed in approving of an agreement concerning the upcoming elections scheduled in Yemen in almost a year so that to enable the supreme commission for elections to meet its technical and administrative commitments to preparation for elections and to avoid opportunity of aborting the democratic action."
Abu Hlaiqa affirmed that an agreement in principle was reached with the JMP on formation of the election supreme commission from judges but the JMP backed down from it and that is considered as violation of the legal, moral and political principle, affirming that in other countries the ministry of interior is the party that supervises holding of elections.
He added that in Yemen the proposal seeks the formation of an impartial committee of judges which is a positive step for enhancement of the democratic policy in the country. He pointed out that the majority in the parliament would go ahead with the amendments the government has proposed and would overcome the authority vacuum through formation of the supreme commission for elections if there was no agreement reached between the political parties.
Abu Hlaiqa said delay of opposition parties in holding the dialogue would negatively influence the democratic process and effect a retreat to it and might cause delay in holding the upcoming elections.
On the other hand Abu Hlaiqa indicated, in a statement published Thursday in 26 September newspaper, to a practical plan approved on Wednesday with attendance of the parliament presidency body and heads of parliamentary blocs and specialised committees for activation of parliamentary work in the next period and includes an agenda for activation of the legislative and monitoring performance and approval of a number of economic laws and legislations that concern the living life of the citizens.
