Almotamar.net - The Head of the Information Office at the General People’s Congress (GPC) Tareq al-Shamy has Monday disapproved statements of Abdulwahab al-Anisi and some leaderships of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) on election of the governors. He considered those statements as a result of what this advanced step has represented of a blow to leaderships of the JMP and made them miss the opportunity of the attempt of impediment they were planning for it, reminding leaderships of the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen and those with them that they have intentionally worked for hindering the dialogue and have insisted on putting the discussion of the constitutional and legal amendments concerning those related to moving to the local rule system and election of governors by the people directly at the end of the dialogue agenda. He added the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies of the JMP parties are they who announced ending the dialogue with the GPC and went beyond that to deem the dialogue as a crime.
Al-Shamy said,” Mr Abdulwahab al-Anisi has never stopped demanding of political accord in every thing, including the results of elections and distribution of shares and booties in the authority, away from the will of the people. He has derived that culture from his partner in the JMP, the Yemen Socialist Party (YSP) who outflanked results of the parliamentary elections of 1993 and what followed them and remained seeking for deals outside results of ballot boxes.”
Al-Shamy added that the GPC took the initiative and called for dialogue with all political forces and was keen on finding accord on the group of constitutional and legal reforms regarding their different political, economic, financial and administrative directions. And for reaching that aim the GPC made several concessions. He said the leaderships of the Muslim Brotherhood and the rest of their allies of the JMP understood that as a weakness from the GPC and so they turned to instigate the street and encourage acts of riot, spread seditions and hatred inside the society.
Al-Shamy wondered if al-Anisi and those with him want to stop the process of electing the governors until the JMP obtains the majority of the local councils.
He added that election of the governors and heads of the districts directly by the people is a GPC demand and part of its electoral programme. The amendment of the local authority law of electing governors by the local councils is a constitutional measure and the JMP’s MPs have participated in their discussion at the parliament that approved them and that measure is a transitional step, he added.
Al-Shamy concluded his statements by confirming that the GPC would continue the process of reforms in different areas as well as the constitutional and legal amendments especially the law of elections.
