Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General of the ruling General People’s Congress (GPC) in Yemen Sultan al-Barakani has commented on statement by Dr Abdulwahab Mahmoud given Saturday by saying “ It is regretful that since Dr Mahmoud has joined the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) , he lost that personality that used to be well-balanced and object of appreciation and respect. “

He added that it seems that the JMP has become a shadow of Dr Mahmoud who denies today with his statements a ruling political party which the people granted it their full confidence via ballot boxes with big majority and for several times.

Al-Barakani has further said that Dr Mahmoud is calling for dialogue with President Ali Abdullah Saleh personally whereas all the offenses launched by the JMP were against the President and “it is impossible for a personality like the President would sit with a group that does not respect what they unleash of statements and they do not realize what effect of their writings cause or persons that lost their balance and credibility as they linked their fate to those that pay.”

The Assistant Secretary General of the GPC for Political Affairs went on to say,” We tell the parties of the JMP and Dr Mahmoud in particular we in the GPC have given them more than what they deserve and a size more than theirs and we have been patient along the past period in the hope that they would resort to reason , otherwise we are not in need to sit with them and we have bodies and institutions and parliamentary majority and people’s presidential and local confidence that we do not demand or beg it from anyone but rather granted by the people . We possess the weight and legitimacy and not the mercenary or hired or those outdated parties. “

Al-Barakani confirmed that the parliamentary elections would be held in the fixed date of April 2011 after the parties of the JMP, represented in the parliament denied all agreements and did not consider the concessions presented by the GPC. he said they are not in need to sit with those leaderships and to waste the time with those with whom they have experience since 2006 and through four agreements that they denied.

Al-Barakani said that after the elapse of one year since signing February agreement, talking about dialogue has become useless.

Al-Barakani stressed that the GPC would observe its commitments and responsibilities and in loyalty to commitment to February agreement “we shall work for carrying it out from one side and there would be referendum about any constitutional amendments related to February agreement along with the elections in April 2011. “He also called on the Supreme Commission for elections to prepare for the elections of April 2011.
