almotamar.net - The World Food Programme (WFP) intends to provide food aid for 6 million Yemenis, including 1 million of primary school's children as part of its activities in the coming year, the WFP representative in Yemen said Tuesday.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindwa, Bishaw Parajuli said that the Programme has appropriated a budget of $495 million for its activities in Yemen from 2014 - 2016.
During the meeting, the Premier and the WFP representative reviewed aspects of the current and future cooperation between Yemen and the Programme, and its contributions to support the government's efforts to encounter the problem of food shortages, especially in the food-poorest areas.
Parajuli briefed the Prime Minister on the latest developments and activities carried out by the WFP in Yemen, saying that the number of beneficiaries of the Programme's activities during the current year reached almost 5 million of both children or pregnant women and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The WFP official praised the government's cooperation and support to facilitate the Programme's activities in Yemen.
The Prime Minister hailed the outstanding humanitarian missions carried out by the WFP in to back the government's plans to address the food poverty, stressing that the government will provide full and unlimited support to succeed the WFP's efforts in the country.
