A source at the ministry told almotamar.net that by importing flour the ministry aims to break traders' monopoly of flour and wheat as they [traders] try to decrease supply and increases the prices of flour and wheat. The ministry will take strict measures against such traders, the source added.
The ministry of trade has recently formed field committees nationwide to discover the reason behind price hikes in foodstuffs.
The source further noted that the violations observed by the ministry reached 2,368 with regard to price hikes and weights of foodstuffs.
According to the ministry's statistics, there are more than 2,700 violations all over governorates.
Almotamar.net learnt from a government official that a general note has been distributed among governors of governorates, asking them to intensify supervision and inspection of foodstuffs prices, and send committees from local councils to follow up the prices and control any case of monopoly in coordination with the ministry of trade's offices nationwide.
