almotamar.net - Activities of the two-day second consultative meeting of the ministry of higher education and presidents of Yemeni government universities chaired by the higher education minister Dr Saleh Basura were concluded at the University of Thamar on Thursday.

Almotamar.net learned that the meeting endorsed the timetable of the executive programme of what is included in the government programme and the election platform of president of the republic with regard to higher education and scientific research and the mechanism of follow-up and implementation.

The meeting also approved the admission capacity of the year 2007-2008 and proportions of admission to the government universities, the unified system of distance education, the draft of the unified system for scientific research in the Yemeni universities and the unified frame of the annual report of universities in addition too setting up a committee to revise the drat law of higher education and receiving remarks on it from universities and relevant parties.

The meeting studied the progress in preparing studies on feasibility and designs of the projects enlisted on the third five-year plan of development approved by the donor conference in London, final preparations for the scientific and cultural week of the Yemeni universities at the Saudi Universities, setting a date for university graduation ceremonies and the formation of a coordination office of higher education ministry at universities to facilitate communication and follow-up between them.

The meeting also reviewed the letter presented by the council of university teachers union in the Yemeni universities and the issues included in it.

At the end of the meeting the minister of higher education Dr Basura confirmed that regularity of meetings between the ministry and presidents of universities form a qualitative development at the level of implementation and follow-up of programmes, plans, decisions and recommendations issued by meetings.
