Almotamar.net - Head of the Information Office at the General People's Congress (GPC) Tariq al-Shamy said the initiative of President Ali Abdullah Saleh of suspending military operations against al-Houthi followers in Saada was violated by the Houthis by targeting social personalities in Saada in addition to destruction of government installations and continuation in attacking army units in the governorate.

Al-Shamy has made it clear that the armed forces and security responded to the initiative but were forced to retaliate after the insurgents attacked them. He stressed that the problem with the Houthi group is not recent but three years before when the confrontation erupted between them and army troops in Mran | area under the leadership of Hussein Badrudin al-Houthi. He pointed out that those elements do not possess a known and clear identity or specific political demands.

Al-Shamy considered the Houthis repeating a slogan "death to America and Israel" as just a cover for practicing acts violating the law. He also touched on the foreign support they receive from Libya and Iran and criticized statements by Moqtada al-Sadr in his Friday preach when he pointed out that the Americans are fighting the Houthis along with Yemeni troops.

The GPC leading member al-Shamy said in an interview with the Lebanese newspaper al-Mustaqbal that Libya offered financial support to al-Houthis and that was also Libya's stand in supporting a coup by the Nasserites in Yemen just months after President Ali Abdullah Saleh assumed power in Yemen in 1978.
