Almotamar.net - President Ali Abdullah Saleh chaired Thursday a meeting for leaderships of local authority of Yemen governorates attendee by the vice-president Abd Rabeh Mansour Hadi, the prime minister Dr Ali Mahmoud Mujawar, the secretary general of the General People's Congress (GPC) Abdulqader Bajammal, the GPC's assistant secretary general Sultan al-Barakani and the ministers of local administration Abdulqader Hilal and civil service Hamud al-Soufi.

The meeting was devoted to review various issues related to the local authority and giving all powers from the ministries to governorates and from it to administrative units at the districts directly and that is in accordance with the law and executive regulation and to work for translation of those texts into practical practice.

The meeting also discussed development issues in the governorates and the importance of granting the governors and officials of the local councils big attention in the process of activating development process and achieving the required success.

President Saleh stressed in the meeting the necessity of completing supply of projects units in the districts with what enables the local authorities in the governorates prepare plans and programmes and studies and specifications of the projects, as well as supervising projects implementation. The president confirmed the necessity that the local authorities take interest in growing their resources and overcome difficulties facing collection of central revenues.

The meeting discussed the necessity of local councils in the governorates and the districts, through the technical units of projects, of supervision on the projects whether they were under local or central funding in the way enabling the local councils contribute to the process of planning and implementation.

The meeting also approved that the local authorities classify again contractors in compatibility with technical criteria and to depend on local material in construction of projects, reconsider operational budget of the local councils and apparatuses of the local authority in general as well as the necessity of coordination between the local authority and the ministries concerned regarding preparation of developmental and services plans and programmes. The meeting also discussed the living conditions of the citizens.
