almotamar.net - The Supreme National Anti-corruption Authority (SNACA) in Yemen is to take part in the Conference of Member States of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) due in Bali, Indonesia on 28 January to 1 February.

The SNACA, which will take part in the conference with a delegation representing all parties concerned with fighting corruption in Yemen, would present at the conference results of the self-assessment on the UNCAC aimed at knowing of what has been implemented of the convention and what Yemen would possibly need of help in combating corruption.

The SNACA would be represented at the conference by member of the Authority, the Head of Information and Awareness Sector Yassin Abdeh Saeed, member of the Authority, Head of the Sector of Budgets and Tenders Ubaid Awadh al-Hamr and member f the Authority, the head of the sector of systems and financial legislations Khalid Abdulaziz.

The SNACA two weeks ago held a meeting chaired by Vice-Chairman of the authority Dr Balqis Abuisbaa with the parties concerned with fighting corruption to discuss the self-assessment of the UNCAC aimed at knowing what was implemented of the convention and what possible help Yemen needs in fighting corruption.

The Authority discussed in the meeting articles of the document distributed among he participating parties to answer questions it included for the purpose of assessing what has been implemented of the convention.

Experts of the programme of governance in the Arab countries affiliate of the UNDP-POGAR have developed a document of the self-assessment of the UNCAC in coordination with UNODC depending in that on the electronic reference regulation for self-assessment and the legislative guide of the UNCAC. They have also taken into consideration the valuable remarks made by representatives of the Arab courtiers within activities of the initiative on good governance for serving development in the Arab countries during 2007.

The document is aimed at encouragement of a programmed process for gathering information for building firm knowledge on the legal and institutional parties for combating corruption in the Arab countries and support promote programmes of technological assistance within the frame of the UNCAC in the Arab countries.
