almotamar.net - Local Administration Undersecretary for the Woman Development Dr Khadija Radman criticised Wednesday negligence the agreement of principles that the political parties and he General People's Congress (GPC) concerning the woman participation had signed before the presidential and local elections held in Yemen in 2006.

Dr Radman said the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) refuses the proposals made by the president of the republic for constitutional amendments giving the woman 15% of parliament seats and she considered the draft constitutional amendments as victory for the Yemeni woman.

During her participation in opening the raining course on supporting the issues of the woman and mechanism of the woman success in the upcoming elections held in Thamar governorate she praised the GPC's meeting of its commitments towards the woman by allocating seats for the woman in all of its leading positions. She said the GPC did not back down from pushing the woman towards political participation and could not oblige other parties to implement what it had carried out because democracy in Yemen does not allow that.

The Local Administration official also reviewed the government plans for training and qualification of the woman in addition to providing different capabilities for the woman sector in governorates and districts in the manner enabling her to draw up plans and policies and implementing them.

She added that the ministry of local administration was in the process of completing the infrastructure and organisaion for the woman sector in different political, economic, social and cultural fields. She stressed the importance of forming real partnership with civil society organisations in order to carry out programmes concerned with development of the woman and incorporation of her issues in the general political orientations and comprehensive upgrading of her situations.

On his part the governor of Thamar Mansour Abduljalil called on all political parties to follow suit of the GPC in the allocation of 15% of parliamentary seats to the woman, indicating the importance of enlightenment of the woman issues and spread of legal awareness in addition to adoption of achieving the active participation of the woman in the democratic and development action.

On her part Dr Raoufa Hassan, chairwoman of the Cultural Development Programs Foundation (CDPF) demanded for partnership in development and modernisation of the democratic regime in Yemen via pushing men and women towards participation in political life. She affirmed her foundation's plan for evolvement of a unified national agenda on the issue of the woman via setting up a specialised legal team for the preparation and implementation of the agenda.
