almotamar.net - The General Committee of the General People's Congress (GPC) on Thursday held a meeting presided over by President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Leader of the GPC, discussing many of issues and topics on its agenda and related to many developments in the Yemeni national arena.

The General Committee listened to a report on procedures and results of the elections of the parliament presidency body and lauded the democratic atmosphere that prevailed the process of the parliament presidency body election that resulted in election of Yahya al-Raei, the GPC Assistant Secretary General as speaker and the election of members of the GPC Permanent Committee Himyar Abdullah Hussein al-Ahmar, Akram Abdullah Attiya and Mohammed Ali al-Shaddadi as deputies of the parliament speaker.

The General Committee also got acquainted with a report on the developments related to executive procedures on ending the sedition in Saada and blessed the efforts exerted for ending the sedition and prevention of bloodshed and the establishment of peace and stability in the areas that were the scene of confrontations in the governorate of Saada.

The General Committee discussed also in its meeting the draft constitutional amendments presented by the legal committee entrusted with preparation of the draft amendments and approved the draft contained whether in relation to the amendments concerning the establishment of the two elected legislative chambers, the parliament and the shoura council and their terms or the amendments on the moving to the system of the expanded powers local rule.

In addition, the General Committee discussed amendments concerning the election and referendum law, formation of the supreme commission for election and referendum, in the light of what the GPC has affirmed of options about it.

The General Committee also got acquainted with a paper presented by the Secretary General on future of dialogue with political parties and organisations in Yemen and reaffirmed the stand of the GPC that is keen on the principle of dialogue on all issues concerning the homeland in the framework of the national responsibility and away from any preconditions and in the manner realizing the national interest.
The General Committee discussed also some issues and developments related to the economic situations and the citizens' living conditions and took decisions about them that would accelerate the rates of development and enhancement of the national economy as well as improvement of the living condition of the citizen.
