Almotamar Net - The UNICEF has endorsed the increase of its support for projects of Countryside Water Authority of Yemen for 2008 to $ 700 thousand at a rate of 70% increase compared to last year. The UNICEF announcement was voiced Wednesday in person of the organisations representative in Yemen Abdu Karim Edigiadi during his meeting today with Head of the Countryside Water Authority Ali Mohammed al-Suraimi. The UNICEF announcement was voiced Wednesday in person of the organisation's representative in Yemen Abdu Karim Edigiadi during his meeting today with Head of the Countryside Water Authority Ali Mohammed al-Suraimi.

The UNICEF representative said there is at present preparation for a campaign for obtaining more support for the water sector in Yemen and that campaign would be launched next March from New York in the United States of America.

He added during the campaign there will be a call for a number of donors with the aim of visiting Yemen to see the situation in Yemen and study its needs in this sector and to work on increasing the international donors support to Yemen and raising allocations of their support to the organisation to be able to cover the remote areas in Yemen. He pointed put the necessity of providing waters and teach the society on its importance as a basic element for life and the necessity of preserving it especially that Yemen faces water scarcity because of its exhaustion in planting the qat.

The support targets projects of the Authority and its branches in governorates of Hudeida, Ibb, Taiz, Dhalie and Amran in aspects of institutional building of the Authority branches, training and qualification of employees in addition to buying water pumps and building tanks.
