Almotamar.net - Secretary General of the General People's Congress (GPC) Abdulqader Bajammal on Saturday left Sana'a for Singapore to receive the Earth International Champions for 2008. Bajammal has won the Award along with other six world personalities and organizers of the award say it was granted to them because they have left imprints in the field of protection of environment all over the Earth.

Abdulqader Bajammal, the Secretary General of the ruling GPC party is honoured with Prince Albert II of Monaco, former US Senator Timothy Wirth, New Zealand's Prime Minister Helen Clark, Balgis Osman Elasha, a Senior Researcher at the Sudanese Higher Council for Environment and National Resources, Atiq Rahman, the Executive Director of the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies, and Liz Thompson, the former Energy and Environment Minister of Barbados.

The UN Environment Programme had announced in last January that it granted the annual prize of the Champions of the Earth for the year 2008 to seven world personalities who had prominent initiatives in various fields such as drawing up environmental policy and conducting most advanced researches with a special focus on sustainable development and fighting of climate change.
