Almotamar.net - A number of Yemeni politicians and intellectuals have Tuesday criticised the stance of the opposition Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) of boycotting election of the provinces governors scheduled next May.

A number of politicians and intellectuals told almotamar.net the stance of the JMP is considered an escape from the democratic rights and inability of meeting ambitions of the Yemeni street by completing its democracy and electing its rulers.

Chairman of the Future Studies Centre Dr Faris al-Saqqaf described the call of the president of the republic for election of governors as advanced and an implementation of the president's election platform, adding that some interest seekers and those harmed from this step worked to impede its implementation since the war of 1994. He considered the stand of the JMP as negative and that there is no policy that any party deals with according to the method of the vacant seat that it wants for it or otherwise resorts to reclusion.

Professor of political sciences Dr Abdulaziz al Harwi mentioned that it is sure the JMP would back down from its stance because it knows that boycotting any boycotting would only bur its owners politically and keep them away from the national arena.

Sociology professor Dr Mustafa Ahmed Othman considered the stance of the JMP as unstudied but nevertheless he deemed it as democratic that expresses the space of political freedom present in Yemen. He said the JMP announced boycotting of election of governors without these parties or others possess any vision towards the local rule. He said election of governors is one of the points in the President's election platform.
