Almotamar.net - Almotamar.net has learned Monday that the General Committee of the General People’s Congress (GPC) would hold a meeting by the end of this week to discuss and approve names of the GPC candidates to elections of governors scheduled in Yemen on 17 of next May.

A source at the technical committee of the GPC said the process of choosing and determining names of the GPC candidates would be carried out according to results of the field visits and sounding opinions of leaderships and bases of the GPC carried out in the past days. The source pointed out that process represented a democratic mechanism as it focused on sounding out opinions of the GPC’s bases and leaderships and that would be reflected by the General Committee in choosing and determining names of the candidates.

The source clarified that the Committee would study reports referred by the governorates and the results that were reached the GPC leaderships that held intensive meetings with branches of the GPC in the governorates and accordingly the names of the GPC candidates will be determined. He affirmed that the committee will be ken on selecting the qualified and talented persons for contesting to the post of the governor.

Election of governors would be the start point towards moving to the local rule with large powers, and in accordance with the election platform of the president of the republic and programme of the GPC.
