Almotamar.net - The World Bank (WB) has announced offering Yemen $10 million as a grant for the development of higher education and this grant comes in the wake of the success Yemen achieved in implementation of the first phase of the project for development the higher education financed by the WB.

Deputy higher education minister Dr Mohammed Mutahar has on Saturday made it clear that the grant would focus on the future development of higher education and would be allocated for two main areas. They are the development of administration and higher education establishments; the financial administration, university education financing, supporting programmes of academic education and guarantee of quality.

26september.net quoted Dr Mutahar as saying that the grant will be allocated also to support establishment of a centre for university education development while the second field will focus on improvement of the function of education, assessment of performance and training of university leaderships in addition to development of higher education programmes through adopting competitive financing to help universities and colleges obtain financing to new educational programmes needed by the process of development and the labour market as well as supporting university libraries and introduction of electronic systems.

A team of the International Development Organisation concluded last Thursday a visit to Yemen during which it assessed the project for the development of education and preparation for launching the new project.
