Almotamar Net - Acting Secretary General of the General Peoples Congress (GPC) Abdulrahman al-Akwaa reiterated Thursday the call to the political parties in Yemen to sit to dialogue on reaching a an agreement enabling the woman to reach the parliament. He said the woman participation has become a necessity and is no longer a political issue and the woman is the partner of the man in everything.

Almotamar.net - Acting Secretary General of the General People's Congress (GPC) Abdulrahman al-Akwaa reiterated Thursday the call to the political parties in Yemen to sit to dialogue on reaching a an agreement enabling the woman to reach the parliament. He said the woman participation has become a necessity and is no longer a political issue and the woman is the partner of the man in everything.

Al-Akwaa accused parties of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) of rejecting all the suggestions presented by the GPC on the adoption of the quota system. He said," In our dialogue with political parties we tried to include the topic of the woman to be obligatory to all parties and all proposals were rejected, including that of the adoption of the quota system for the woman."

Al-Akwaa reminded of the GPC suggestions on allocation of certain constituencies for the woman, pointing out to a proposal of setting aside constituencies for the woman from all parties and to leave competition in nomination and any woman who wins is to be a national gain for the society and the political experiment as well as the homeland but that proposal was rejected.

Al-Akwaa said the GPC suggested that a woman candidate would be the one for all parties and should be elected by all parties with the aim that she reaches the parliament. He said that proposal was refused too.

At a Ramadan evening held Wednesday at the capital that all the proposals suggested by the GPC were rejected by the JMP.
