Almotamar.net, Saba - The United Kingdom hailed on Wednesday the ceasefire between the Yemeni government and the al-Houthis, urging all parties to build a durable peace in northern Yemen.

��The British Government welcomes the ceasefire between the Government of Yemen and the Houthis. We urge all parties to build a durable peace in northern Yemen and to facilitate immediate humanitarian access��, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander said in a joint statement.

��The international community reaffirmed its support for Yemen at the London meeting in January. We stand ready, with our partners in the international community, to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of those affected by the fighting and address the root causes of the conflict��.

The two British officials also announced that DFID will be providing a further �2m in support for the humanitarian response in northern Yemen.

��This brings the UK's total aid contribution for Yemen to �27m for 2009/10��, they added.
