Almotamar.net - Meetings of the Arab emergency summit have begun in the Libyan city of Sirte on Saturday at the level of leaders. Yemen is taking part in the summit with a delegation led by President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The summit discusses a number of topics, most prominent of which are development the system of Arab joint action, the policy of Arab neighbourhood and establishment of regional neighbourhood league.

A diplomatic source stated that meeting of the Arab leaders would be devoted to discuss the results reached by the 5-member committee composed of Arab leaders during the ordinary Arab summit last March on development of the system of the Arab joint action.

Yemen news agency Saba quoted the source as saying that the Yemeni initiative for establishing the Union of Arab States comes at the top of the topics on agenda of the Arab leaders in addition tom to studying the draft protocol on development of the Arab joint action prepared by the general secretariat of the League of Arab States in coordination with chairmanship of the summit.

Arab foreign ministers have completed before the beginning of the summit their preparatory meeting to discuss the remaining topics on their agenda to be approved and referred to the Arab leaders during their emergency summit.
