Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General at the General People’s Congress (GPC) Dr Ahmed Ubeid bin Daghr has clarified that February agreement was the proposal of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) but so soon they changed the proposal and gave it into another concept.

Bin Daghr said the agreement was aimed at discussing the constitutional amendments with the aim of developing the political and electoral system as well as for agreement on amending the elections law and formation of the supreme commission for elections but after the elapse of a few days of the signing they tried the term of justifying preparation of the climate for a political dialogue and abbreviated February agreement in this explanation and gave condition for achieving it the stop of the war in Saada, pulling the armed forces out of the southern and ester provinces and release of prisoners.

In an interview to Al-Wahda newspaper published Wednesday, Bin Daghr said it was obvious that the goal behind those conditions was the escape from the letter and spirit of February agreement.

Bin Daghr added that the parties of the JMP have not gone to the dialogue but for “clowning” and prelude to the goals they have prepared, those which are promoted in all of their writings, i.e. the objective of attaining power, describing them as they have not proceeded one step towards that goal for a simple reason, because the majority of the society is still clinging to President Ali Abdullah Saleh, his party and political pursuit.

Bin Daghr added that out of the President’s feeling of the national responsibility on his shoulder, he has intervened more than once to bring together leaderships of the GPC and the JMP but all that was not of use with them “we have even presented a group of proposals aimed at reaching a common understanding of February agreement but the JMP remained sticking to their well-known phrase of “preparing the climate for political dialogue”.

The Assistant Secretary General said the GPC has done what it should do out of a deep feeling of national responsibility on its shoulder as a big majority party in the parliament. “
He has made it clear that the parties of the JMP had voted on the elections law which was approved by the parliament, article by article, which is the law that contained all their suggestions concerning the supreme commission for elections, the electoral record and the process of polling along with all the legal guarantees which they have submitted in addition to its containing of the remarks presented by the European and American friends.

Bin Daghr has also pointed out that ,” We are advocates of dialogue and our leadership is tolerant than them and more reasonable in dealing with national affairs , we did not close the door of dialogue and would not close it but the problem lies with the JMP in its wrong understanding of February agreement.”

He added that democracy and respect of the constitution are guarantors of rectifying all the mistakes “and in time we will get used to practicing democracy as a style of life and that would not be realised but to abiding by the constitution, as it is the law of the laws.”
