almotamar.net - The Arab League (AL) has strongly condemned the terrorist attacks taken place last Friday in Shabwa province by al-Qaeda militants led to killing and wounding tens of armed and security individuals.

The assailants attacked a military checkpoint in Mayfaa of Shabwa province using a car bomb and various weapons, killing, according to the last statistic, 24 soldiers and many injuries.

In his press release, AL Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi denounced the attacks which hinder the exerting efforts to restore the political and security stability in Yemen.

He expressed confidence in the abilities of Yemeni government to encounter the current challenges, underlining the League's support to Yemen and for providing the required assistances.

Al-Arabi called on all Yemeni national parties to keep away from controversies during the current critical stage experienced by the country and the whole region in general and to overcome the various obstacles deterring the development process.

He urged the need for active participation in the course of the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference (NDC), and to accelerate realizing its outcomes, stressing that dialogue is the best way to achieve the Yemeni people's aspirations for peaceful political change, construction, reform and national unity.

The AL also called on the donor countries participating in the meeting of the Friends of Yemen to be held early next week in New York to fulfill their financial pledges, so that Yemen can address the economic crisis repercussions and continue its efforts to counter terrorism
